The inn building and its history
The Gasthaus Switzerland Inn today is a 22 room non-smoking Bed and Breakfast Inn. We are a proud resident of historic Daly Avenue, in the Nation's Capital.
89 Daly Avenue, originally three seperate units (87, 89 and 91 Daly), has served many different purposes. According to the Ottawa Street Directories, the property was constructed between 1872-73 from limestone in a 19th Century Vernacular Classical Revival.
Original residents include; a clerk, Charles Ritchie, a civil servant, George Jarives, and a chemist and druggist , George Mortimer. In 1945 the establishment was converted into an apartment complex, then remodeled into a rooming house and in 1985 it was opened as the Gasthaus Switzerland Inn.
